Do you work with my contractor or bring your own?

We ideally join your project before a contractor is selected so we can help place you with a team that aligns with your goals, scope, and expectations. Our experience working with many builders gives us a strong understanding of who is the best fit for each type of project. We can also work with your chosen contractor, provided they meet our standards for quality and professionalism.

Can I shop on my own?

To protect the quality, consistency, and efficiency of your design, we ask clients not to source independently. All furnishings and materials are curated by our team.

How do we communicate throughout the process?

Clear, consistent communication is central to every Proper House project. Each client is supported through Asana, where your project is managed closely from start to finish so you always know what is happening and what comes next. During the design phase, you receive a detailed project binder that outlines each step and keeps everything organized. Once construction begins, all communication and documentation transition into a full construction binder for you and your contractor. Along with email and your client portal, this system ensures you always feel informed, supported, and fully guided with care in every detail.

When should I reach out to start working with you?

Proper House should be the very first call you make when you begin considering a renovation, new build, or home addition. The earlier we are involved, the more thoughtfully and intentionally your home can be designed from the ground up. Reaching out during the planning phase allows us to guide layouts, flow, materials, and overall vision before construction decisions lock you in. Do not wait until building has begun. The strongest projects always start with design first.

How long does a typical project take?

The most important thing to remember is that good things take time! Our design process begins with a 12-week design process, but larger projects that require more love, will also require more time.

What areas do you serve?

We serve clients throughout the Main Line and Greater Philadelphia area, and select projects nationwide depending on scope.

Do you handle purchasing?

Yes — all purchasing is handled through Proper House. This allows us to manage logistics, track orders, handle freight issues, and ensure professional installation.

Do you take on small projects or single rooms?

We accept single-room or multi-room furnishing projects that meet our project minimums and include full furnishing and styling. We do not take on small one-off requests such as selecting a paint color or sourcing a single piece.
